Olivier Véran, Minister of Health, launched the first experiments with medical cannabis in France on Friday March 26 on Twitter. “It was one of my commitments as a doctor, I brought it to the National Assembly as deputy, and I am proud to announce it as a minister: France is experimenting with the medical use of cannabis. Today I was with Prof. Nicolas Authier for the 1st prescription.”
Following the favorable opinion of the National Medicine Safety Agency (ANSM) of July 2019, the first experiments in the medical use of therapeutic cannabis in France were authorized by decree of law in October 2020.
Cannabis is a narcotic that, for each import transaction, requires a permit from the importing country and a permit from the exporting country, with customs presentation procedures. Import permits for narcotic drugs and psychotropic drugs are issued by ANSM, the national authority designated by the UN.
